Safety Information

SPORT HAWKES BAY HAVE ADVISED THAT IT IS IMPORTANT THAT WE IDENTIFY AREAS OF ACCIDENT POTENTIAL AND ALSO BRIEF PARTICIPANTS ON REMEDIES.

Please make sure that all your players are aware of the hazards and issues.

  • Fixed bases. You should brief all players on the dangers of fixed bases and the potential of breaking a leg if you slide incorrectly. Please ensure you are aware of the diamond base make-up before you commence play.
  • Hot showers - no showers are currently available in the clubrooms. Showers are available in the Riverslea Road changing rooms. The Tournament Organiser can arrange access. All temperatures should be tested before using these showers.
  • Car Park - all persons using the car park should ensure access to the park is kept free to allow emergency vehicles access to the grounds. Traffic tickets will be issued to any vehicles blocking the Willowpark Road entrance to the park. Vehicles may be towed away if it is considered to be obstructing emergency vehicle access to the park. This will be at the vehicle’s owner's expense. Please drive slowly when entering and exiting the car park.
  • A small stream runs along the south side of the park. This is a very dangerous area for young children. Young children should not be left unsupervised in this area.
  • Foul balls – it is important that you look after each other when there are foul balls. The balls are very hard, and you should help each other by letting others know if a foul ball is coming towards them.
  • Players in the outfield – with the park being so busy, please help your outfielders out so they avoid running into players, objects or supporters.
  • Helmets – for safety reasons, these must be worn. All other safety gear, as required by SNZ rules, must be worn
  • Goal posts at Hastings Boys' High School – the winter goal posts may be up. PLEASE be aware that this is a hazard and you should ensure players avoid any danger.
  • PLEASE no glass on the Park – only cans and no liquor on the playing diamonds
  • All teams should have a comprehensive first aid kit.
  • First aid is available upstairs in the Tournament office. If you call an ambulance, please advise the Tournament organisers, so they can ensure access to the park.
  • Ice, for an emergency, teams should have their own supply.
  • Details of the contacts, and location for emergency doctor etc, are contained in the info pack collected when you arrive at the Park from the Tournament Office Friday and in the program
