WE'RE HERE TO HAVE FUN - THAT'S WHAT FUN IN THE SUN IS ALL ABOUT. TO AVOID ISSUES AND TO MAKE SURE EVERYBODY IS ENJOYING THEMSELVES THERE ARE A FEW GUIDELINES WE ALL NEED TO ADHERE BY.

DRINKS (NO GLASS)

Alcohol is OK in plastic or cans ONLY. If we see you with glass bottles we'll have to confiscate them, and we don't want to do that because we're all here to have a good time. Broken glass just poses too much of a risk, especially with the number of young kids around the park who aren't wearing shoes. So to be on the safe side, glass isn't permitted.

Alcohol is not permitted on the playing diamonds.

GAME TIME

Each game has a time limit playing to the bell. Check the final info pack for details. Runs are counted on the last completed innings unless you are at the bottom of the innings and the batting team is ahead. If under these rules the game is tied, the game remains tied and a draw is called.

PICK UP PLAYERS

To ensure participation, some teams have been granted permission to pick up players. It's all about enjoyment, participtating, and fairplay; so any Black Sox / White Sox squad members from the last two years must bat the alternative to their normal batting side. If you're unsure or you have any issues, please discuss this with us directly.

PLAYERS

It's important that all players have equal opportunities.

No Senior A Major Association pitchers on the mound (e.g. Wellington//Canterbury/Hutt/Auckland). If the pitcher has pitched at Nationals, Club or other major tournaments, they cannot pitch unless under special circumstances we have given permission.

Once a player has played for one team in the tournament, he/she cannot play for another team without the expressed permission of the tournament organiser.

If in doubt, it is important that you consult with the tournament organiser. Please DO NOT try to get away with breaking these rules, it will cause unnecessary issues.

SCORERS

The tournament is far to big for official scorers; please ensure the results are recorded on the official score sheet on the back of the diamond net. If you do not have a scorer on your game, disputes will be resolved by the umpire or one of the tournament organisers.

TEAM SHEETS

Team Sheets are provided with the Tournament Pack that you pick up Friday Night from the Bar. It must be completed 5 minutes prior to the commencement of the game, handed to the team scorers for recording and then the Umpire.

UMPIRES

Teams are rostered to umpire as per the draw. If we have more umpires you might not be required, however this is subject to umpire availability and you will be notified if this is the case. Failure to Umpire will prevent your team from progressing to the semi-finals.

If the umpire is running late from the previous game, please do the toss without him/her to save time.

RAIN

In the event of rain interrupting play, the section winners will be decided on wins/losses. If two or more teams are tied it will be decided on who beat who in previous games; if this does not establish a winner then it will be decided on a runs for and against ratio. Teams have to have completed two rounds.

The tournament organisers may call a round earlier than the time limit if the weather is considered to make play dangerous. No discussion will be entered into this. So if you want to win, get plenty of runs early. Games may also have reduced time limits.

NOTE: Entry fees will not be refunded if the tournament is affected by rain.

PROTESTS

Play in the spirit of the tournament and do not protest - it's just a game and we're here to have fun!

If you do protest, you will not be refunded for the $50 protest fee. Win or lose the protest, you lose your money.

POINTS

WIN - 2 Points, DRAW - 1 Point, LOSS - 0 Points

If at the completion of play the top place is tied, the winner will be decided on the tied teams formula. If we're still having problems, we'll flip a coin.

SOFTBALL NEW ZEALAND RULES

All other N.Z. Softball Assn rules will apply where applicable and reasonable. In any matters of dispute, the ruling of the tournament organiser is final.

We do not have any special social rules; teams can agree on no bunting or stealing, but these are not tournament rules and will not be enforced by the organisers if a dispute arises.

For safety reasons, we require batting helmets to be used.

GAME BALLS

Supply your own; preferably Mizuno. Balls will be available to purchase from Just Softball if required.
